> “To the temple of The Daughter.”
> The power armor revealed no skin and his voice was mechanic and for a second I was unsure if he was human at all. Perhaps this was all a dream. Perhaps the crash to the snowy surface of this insignificant feral world had left me in coma. But the pain from a cut in my forehead kept telling me that this was real.
> In silence he led me through a snow filled courtyard where we passed several other marines. In the army I had once seen marines but these looked different. Their armor were ancient and completely grey except for the red “XI” on their shoulders.
> A woman sat on a golden throne in the temple with her face hooded. The marine knelt and I found my wobbly legs doing the same.
> “I have brought a survivor,” said the marine.
> “Excellent. You may leave us.” her voice seemed to come from the inside of my head.
> As we were left alone she pulled back her hood. She had blond curly hair and an ageless face with beautiful ocean blue eyes.
> “We don’t get visitors very often and we like it that way.” her voice echoed in my head.
> Drumming her fingers against the armrest she watched me in silence.
> “Who are you, I never heard of a XI chapter.”
> “Not many have,” she smiled, “ages ago I left my family to hide here when two of my half brothers fell in love with me, there were a risk for civil war because of me.”
> She rose from the throne. She was even taller than the marine, at least 8 feet tall.
> “Enough of that. I’ve decided I will let you live. You can fill some purpose here.” She stepped forward towards me. Her eyes sparked with a yellow light and I stepped backward until my back hit the wall.
> “I only have marines around here. Invaluable in battle but completely lack the hunger of a normal human.” she moved her hand in the air and my shirt fell off in shreds, “but I don’t.”
